God's..Army/
Headbanger's..Ballroom/Hamburg..2006
The evening in the Headbangers Ballroom was definatelly a powerful
musical experience.
Upon my arrival to the venue, I was lucky enough to be allowed to take
a couple of pictures of the band, while they were backstage ( guys:
thank you for your patience and charming posing! ). Then, just as I
hardly had enough time to order a drink and take in the surroundings,
it all started: a guitar stroke and pounding on the drums, and they
had our full attention.
Impressive and fun to watch on stage. John A.B.C. Smith constantly
in motion, singing with theatrical expressions on his face and his
long hair flying all over the stage as he moved and played his bass.
Behind him, a hard to miss drum kit and Mark Cross - the master of
this domain - holding the drum sticks, and with great pleasure allowing
them to fly and land here and there on the kit with skill, as the rythm
dictated. To keep things balanced on stage, the two guitarists, stood
one to the left the other on the right, both very cool looking, playing
their guitars and ejoying every minute of it...
...as did enjoy, everyone else in the venue: musicians and audience
members alike.
The God's Army set list consisted of all of their own (new) songs, plus
one:
- I Will Survive
- Now Is The Time
- Last Frontier
- Hear You Scream
...a drum solo here and then...
- Gods Must Be Crazy
- Running Around In Circles
- God's Army
................
- Ace Of Spades (they finished with this cover song, since the
following day, the 24th of December, was Lemmy Kilmister's birthday!)
There is a DVD in the making this weekend (on January 7th), shooting
a concert (God's Army and Mystic Prophecy) in the Matrix, in Bochum;
also the first God's Army CD is ready: "Gods Must Be Crazy". I'm
looking forward to enjoying one or the other, or both.
